Jon Casson
Founder and Principal
With over two decades of experience in coaching, athlete development and coach education, Jon Casson started Transition Consulting to share his experience, knowledge and expertise with coaches from all sports.
His background in non-traditional sports gives him a unique perspective and insight that will help all coaches grow and develop their own coaching practice.
BACKGROUND AND CAREER
Originally from Washington, DC, Jon grew up skateboarding and mountain biking around the streets and trails of Northern Virginia. In 1997, Jon moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado and started working as a snowboard instructor which led him to coaching competitive snowboarding for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Team Utah and the Park City Snowboard Team. In his coaching career, Jon worked with some of the best snowboarders in the world and helped athletes reach top finishes at Youth Olympics, World Cups, National and World Championships, The US Open, X-Games and the Winter Olympics.
In addition to coaching, Jon also served on the Executive Board for the United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) and two terms as Chairman of the Snowboard Committee for US Ski and Snowboard where he also had a seat on the Board of Directors. Jon also Chaired the US Snowboard Coach Education Committee for 10 years and was instrumental in developing coach education for snowboarding.
Jon left full time coaching in 2015 to take a role with US Ski and Snowboard as Coach Education Manager and, subsequently, Director of Sport Education where he led a project to overhaul and modernize coach education for all snow sports coaches in the US. In 2018, Jon returned to active coaching as Head Coach of the Canadian BoarderCross National Team. From 2019 to 2020, Jon shifted his coach education experience from snow to dirt as Senior Coach Licensing Manger for the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. in 2021, Jon launched Transition Consulting, LLC to share his experience with coaches in all sports.
